2008 Diving Trip to Norway, 28th June to 5th July leading to a 2009 Regional Expedition
From Steve Parry, Eastern Region Coach
Hi all,
I have Gaelic Rose, a UK liveaboard hardboat booked for the above dates which will be operating from Bergen.
The itinerary will be to travel up the Norwegian Coast from Bergen and dive wrecks in fjords. I have enclosed a link to the S-AC Travel Club website from the July 2007 trip.
http://www.bsactravelclub.co.uk/reports/norway4.htmThe 2008 trip will be a very similar format to the above trip report.
The final itinerary/depths etc will be confirmed once we have a full boat and are aware of the experience levels/expectations of the divers. I would suggest that the minimum qualification will be very experienced sports diver with 35m depth rating or ideally dive leader and above. Many of the wrecks lay at angles on the fjord walls (similar to the Rondo in the sound of Mull) so it is possible to pick your depth in anything from 6-70 metres.
This year all the places so far have been taken by divers from eastern region. We still have places left and I would like to fill the remaining places with a full compliment from eastern region.
However, I need commitment and a £75 deposit by the end of January with the balance to the hardboat due by late May. Travel to/from Bergen is your responsibility and could be the ferry from Tynemouth or a flight from Stanstead (flights were £95 return in 2007 c/w 55 kg luggage allowance).
I will be contacting the Norwegian authorities prior to this year's trip to identify any diving-related research projects that could be carried out by members of a 2009 expedition. If I can identify a suitable diving related project with the authorities, I will produce an expedition plan and submit a REDS/BEGS application to BS-AC for grant assistance/funding. It would obviously be advantageous to invite eastern region divers on the 2009 expedition that have previously dived together/ have some knowledge of diving Norway, possibly via the 2008 trip as this would reduce the 'learning / familiarity curve' on a 2009 expedition with objectives.
Best Regards
